What is Manual J & S?
Manual J and Manual S are the two-part foundation of any properly designed HVAC system. Manual J calculates exactly how much heating and cooling your home requires. Manual S is the equipment - selecting the right equipment ensure that the proposed equipment can actually deliver that performance at your local climate conditions. Not too little and not too much. Rightsizing is what is best here.
Together they ensure your system is sized right, selected right, and ready to pass inspection. Most building departments, ENERGY STAR programs, and HVAC contractors require both before installation can begin.
